SUMMARY:Durward's Glen to Host Historic Open House
DESCRIPTION:Durward's Glen will host a Historic Open House from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday\, August 25. There will be guided tours of the buildings and grounds\, and reenactors will be on hand to give visitors a feel for what life would have been like in the Baraboo Hills during the late 1800s. Refreshments will be available in the Main Hall.\n\n \n\nDurward's Glen was settled by the family of Bernard and Margaret Durward\, a Scottish family of painters\, poets\, and naturalists\, in 1862. Three of the structures they built\, the Cornerstone Hermitage\, Artist's Cottage and St. Mary's of the Pines Chapel\, still stand. \n\n \n\nToday the Glen is owned and operated as a 501(c)3 by a Friends group\, which seeks to keep Durward's Glen open to the public. The Hermitage\, Cottage and Main Lodge\, built in the 1930s and further developed in the 1960s\, are available to rent by groups and individuals of all faiths. Glen grounds are open to the public daily from dawn until dusk.
